Client: All of us
I went along to the relocated Black Lives Matter event at St Luke's yesterday, intending to show some solidarity and take some photos. However, when I opened my camera bag I discovered I'd left my memory cards at home, so I resigned myself to just being there: catching up with some familiar faces and getting to know some new ones. Luckily, photographer Michael Kirkham was also there (with his memory cards, because he's not a complete moron) and he agreed to let us share his work on our site. People of all ages and from all over the city marched down Bold Street, Church Street and Whitechapel, across to Lime Street Station, Renshaw Street, around Concert Square, Fleet Street, Hanover Street and back again. The event was an overwhelmingly positive experience: nobody got out of hand, nobody antagonised the authorities, teenagers on bikes even led some of the call & response chants, reminding us that young people are anything but apathetic. Mike's incredible photos give a great account of this vital event; an event that made me very proud of this city and the people who call it home.
There's another Black Lives Matter event happening next Saturday. Get along and show your support. Black Lives Matter Rally / Saturday 16th July - 2.00pm / St. George's Hall, Liverpool
