Kula Yoga Studio's 200 hour Teacher Training program utilizes both the Anusara Immersion and Anusara Teacher Training to fulfill Yoga Alliances requirements to be registered as a Yoga School and to certify instructors as Certified Yoga Instructors. Grounded in the philosophical basis of Tantra and Intrinsic Goodness that rests at the heart of Anusara Yoga, Kula Yoga Studio's Teacher Training program is about expanding the experience of goodness in each of us and for some, helping others to expand this experience for themselves.

This is some of the best training, most recognized throughout the yoga industry! Of the top 20 up and coming, young (under 40) yoga instructors in the US, Yoga Journal named two that are certified Anusara Yoga instructors.

Kula has combined The Anusara Yoga Immersion and Teacher Training plus additional work to satisfy the requirements of Yoga Alliance to be a registered Yoga School. Completing Kula's 200 hour teacher training program will allow you to register with Yoga Alliance as a Certified Yoga Teacher and at the same time meet part of the curriculum for Anusara Yoga's teacher training program. The Anusara Immersion and Teacher Training content can also be applied toward becoming recognized as an Anusara Inspired yoga instructor. The Anusara Immersion and Teacher Training are also often looked at when applying to various other Anusara workshops and events.

Unlike many yoga training programs that entail an extensively long teacher training program, the Anusara Yoga Teacher Training workshop is a smaller portion of their total certification requirements. By presenting the teacher training in one small section, students and instructors can concentrate on how to teach rather than what to teach during this workshop. The Anusara Immersion Training contains much more of the information that a teacher may decide to instruct, including alignment, history, philosophy and more.

Teachers can take the Immersion; enjoy learning the content without having to be responsible for how to present the information at the same time. It is highly recommended and at times required, that a participant have a very strong familiarity with Anusara yoga or have participated in at least part of the Immersion before attending the teacher training. You must have either attended 50 or more hours of Immersion training or gained special permission to attend the Anusara Yoga Teacher Training at Kula. The Anusara Yoga Teacher Training does not present alignment, asana, history or much of the other content necessary to teach; rather it concentrates on how to teach the content.

In order to take the required teacher training presented by John Friend, in the Anusara Yoga Certification process, instructors and students must have completed the full Anusara Yoga Immersion, presented by a certified Anusara Yoga Instructor.
The program presented at Kula will not certify an instructor in Anusara Yoga but will complete requirements for part of this. Instructors can however complete all the requirements needed to be recognized by The Yoga Alliance as a certified yoga instructor. Yoga Alliance will recognize your study and hours and will recognize them as hours of study from Kula of Anusara Yoga. If you are not clear about this please ask before you decide to dedicate your funds to this program.

Because the Anusara Yoga Teacher Training program has never been presented in Utah prior to the program at Kula and the Immersion has only been presented once in Utah by certified instructor Adam Ballenger, there have been a lot of questions about the program. If you have questions please feel free to contact Adam@KulaStudio.com. If you are thinking about taking a certification program, especially the one presented at Kula, please be clear of your intentions, why you have decided to apply, what you hope to get out of it, what you hope to do with what you learn, how you want your study to be recognized by others (if that is important to you) and what you hope to get out of it.

A couple of questions that have been posed that may help you:

* Is it true that most of the other major yoga studios that have teacher training's use Certified or trained Anusara Yoga Teachers to teach parts of their teacher training's: that's what I've been told by friends at other studio and folks who've been part of those training's, and it's a great compliment to Anusara Yoga and the quality that it stands for. The other training's do not certify anyone for anything Anusara and do not count towards Anusara Yoga Immersion or Teacher Training hours, Only the Immersion and Teacher Training do that. Anusara is a wonderful specialized yoga training that gives an instructor or student a broad set of abilities and a good depth in those areas studied but it is specific to Anusara Yoga's curriculum and is not the same as those training's presented at the other local major studios.

* If I finish this program will I be a Certified Anusara Yoga instructor:
No, You can be recognized by The Yoga Alliance as a Certified 200 hr Registered Yoga Teacher but not a certified Anusara Yoga Instructor with this training alone.

* Who recognizes this certification and this training?

I wish I could tell you that everyone would recognize this but there is just no guaranteeing that. I can tell you that The Yoga Alliance is probably the largest most recognized yoga certification organization in the United States and that Anusara Yoga has repeatedly been touted by yoga journalism, magazines and such (even by folks who arena’t associated with Anusara) as one of the best training programs available in the world. This is an international reputation. Even students and instructors who decide not to be affiliated with Anusara seek out it’s training for its excellence. Students from all over the world travel to the states to get Anusara Yoga training every year. Today their are less than 250 certified Anusara Yoga instructors (in the world, not just in Utah) and they are in demand from Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Asia as well as all over the United States.

* Will this training program limit or “pigeon hole” me for teaching?
Again, I wish I could tell you “no” but there is just no guarantee. No matter what training program you take whether it be at a community college, a well recognized yoga school or your best friends own creation, your training will be specific or "pigeon holed" to that college, school or persons curriculum. Anusara is very specific, technical and has deep philosophical roots. The tools you learn to use in Anusara yoga are excellent. I guess this is why Anusara teacher have been asked to teach portions of most of the other training's in town.

* When I finish or graduate, what will I receive?
You will receive the documentation needed to receive your Yoga Alliance certification and validation of your hours of study with Anusara if that is the direction you are headed. If you are working on being an instructor, this may be a milestone of sorts but in the tradition of yoga, graduation is somewhat of a mistaken term indicating that you are finished. Your greatest teachers are probably some of the greatest students you’ve ever met and are likely still wonderful students. Studentship in some ways is having a lasting dedication to alertness, study or recognition. If you have the desire to instruct then it is a good idea to concede that you may never be done being alert or studying. Whether you instruct or not, your alertness to your own greatness, your own beauty and your own connection to not only your individual greatness but to something even greater than your individual-ness will be a great gift.

* I’ve seen some programs that advertise many more hours than this one, are they better?
I would comment that content is usually more important to me than hours but I would also have to admit that for myself there have been times that a lot of hours for less dollars per hour may have been important. I would however caution that some programs fill their hours with home reading time and home journaling time, even time watching videos. If I had college credit hours for all the time I spent studying and reading I would have graduated with a number of doctoral degrees. Another way of putting it is, are you paying for sitting at home and reading a book, for taking classes or for instruction? Like I said before, there is good in all training programs. Research what it is you are signing up for, what you are paying for and what is reasonable for you. I have taken a lot of training workshops of many different fashions and they have all been valuable, some more than others and I haven’t had any regret towards any of them. Even if you signed up for a training in the past that now seems very un-preparing, it is what got you to this point. For an eager mind, one will never be enough.

* I noticed that you don’t get free classes or secondary workshops with your training, what’s up with that?
Love that one! Not all of the participants can make it to weekly classes so adding to the tuition to include free classes doesn't’t make sense for them (that's how it works). Likewise, I hold teachers instruction as valuable, so inviting someone else to take one of the instructors’ classes at Kula for free is just not fair to that instructor. Otherwise I would have to pay that instructor for a free attendance and in turn raise the price of the workshop. I will make arrangements for participants who want to observe or assist on an individual basis. If a participant has a problem with paying for the Immersion/Training due to budget or other issues they are welcome to bring that up with me and I will make individual arrangements. We also have programs and discounts for students who need them for public classes. Any required classes will be included in the price of the workshop. We definitely don’t intend to leave participants with the decision of Immersion/Training or public classes. There are options.

* Do you do any trade or scholarships in case we can’t pay for the whole thing?

Yes, and they are on an individual basis. You’ll have to communicate with me about your situation and we’ll see what we can do. Adam@KulaStudio.com

* I don’t think I can make all the sessions, what should I do?
Once you know all the dates, write down what you can and can’t make and I’ll go over what we should do. Participants can make up a small number of hours by participating in extra “Anusara Practices” and some guest workshops. If it looks like you are going to miss too much, I’ll let you know if there is a way to get around it or if it’s just too much and that we should wait till the next one.

That’s about it for now, again, let me know if you have more questions.
Thanks
Adam
